Well, after taking the last batch of pics I tried to lift the engine and tranny combo with my lift and it wasn't happy 6" off the ground much less 6 feet so I jockied the junk around yet again and pulled the tow truck around back. Hooked the engine and tranny up and tried to drop it in place...
On each of these pics the engine is tilted further and further back so the tranny would go down into the hole.
Matt catching yet another dose of tranny fluid...
About a half hour later... Had to torch the engine stands off the frame and sawzalled the radiator support (it's very rusty on the bottom).
It actually fits about half. I plan on doing a 1.5" body lift like the '71 and everything looks like it'll be happy. The engine is sitting on the steering and the crossmember, the tranny on the front crossmember. The oil pan tucks in behind the crossmember. The driveshaft is about a foot too long but otherwise I think everything is going to line up pretty well.
The compressor housing needs clocked a bit and there's plenty of room for the exhaust. I'm not sure which radiator I'll end up with, maybe I'll be able to reuse the heavy duty cooling one and of course I need to figure out if the big PS intercooler will fit.
