Yet Another Door Weatherstrip Question!
So I have my new door weatherstrip on the way. I know many of you have replaced yours, what kind of issues did you come up against? Is there a better adhesive to use? What didi you use to remove the old adhesive? I know there are many instances of finding out the right way to do it, the hard way! Any suggestions or better ideas are welcomed! Thanks

Re: Yet Another Door Weatherstrip Question!
I just installed new weatherstripping this week on my 72 F250. The old stuff came off real easy and I used my dremel with a light wire wheel to buff off the old adhesive and then cleaned/wiped it down real good. I wanted to make sure it was pretty clean so the new adhesive would adhere. I used the 3M weatherstripping adhesive from Autozone. They make it in black ($9.99) or yellow (7.99). I used the black but I don't think it makes any difference. The old adhesive on the truck was yellow.
The weatherstripping that I bought was from "Precision" and it seems like pretty quality stuff. It went into the groove and rails real easily and seemed to fit perfectly. I had to cut it and I made sure that the ends met in the middle, underneath of the scuff plate. I had to try and "flatten" it before I put the scuff plat on but otherwise, no problem. I made sure that I didn't cut it too short so that there was plenty of flexibility for it to "stretch". I applied the adhesive in a bead. It all seemed to go on perfectly and without any issues. Both doors do close tightly, however, this weekend I am going to have to adjust the striker post so that they will close a little better against the cab. Because the new weatherstripping is so much better and fuller and the old was so worn out and "flat", the doors stick out a little. Talk about a world of difference the new seals make!
Good luck!

Re: Yet Another Door Weatherstrip Question!
Thanks for the info Terry. I also got mine from Precision. Everyone has said they are the premium door seals. I am looking forward to getting them and then getting them installed. I guess I'll have to do it at work, I don't have a dremel at home. I'll see what they have in the body shop. Those guys usually have whatever I need! Thanks again for the info - Donnie

Re: Yet Another Door Weatherstrip Question!
Donnie, here's a couple of other thoughts. You might want to have a couple of the medium sized pinch clamps available. They come in very handy to hold them in place, especially the corners, while the adhesive gets "sticky". Also, you might apply the adhesive to the rail as well as to the inside of the weatherstripping and then let them sit for a minute while they get tacky, then apply the weatherstripping to the truck. Only do about 6-8" at a time, otherwise it gets a little hard to handle. On a final note, when it's all in place and you put the scuff plate down, I found it easy to make sure the top, inside screw hole (the screw along the kick panel) is lined up and install that screw. Once that screw is in place, use a punch or ice pick and push it through the rest of the screw holes of the scuff plate. By doing this, you can line up the screw holes and it's easier to get the screws into it and through the weatherstripping. Good luck!

Re: Yet Another Door Weatherstrip Question!
Received my new weatherstrips. Really great quality. The dude in Colorado has some great deals on this rubber. Fit well, nice and quiet! Can't wait until it "seats" in a little so I don't have to slam my door so hard! I don't like treating ol green that way!

Here is the link to the Ebay posting of the set that I won from the person in Denver. They are made by Precision. I didn't see a current auction but he/she runs an auction quite frequently. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... K:MEWNX:IT

Re: Yet Another Door Weatherstrip Question!
where the weatherstripping goes under the scuffplate, how do you "flatten" it out and also where do you apply the glue?

Re: Yet Another Door Weatherstrip Question!
the bottom wont get glue. the rest of th strip will get the glue poured down inside of the groove or it canbe put right on the metal the strip slips over. as far as flattening it. you put screw the trim down and it should flatten right out.

Re: Yet Another Door Weatherstrip Question!
Can anyone compare the Precision weatherstripping to LMC? My LMC weather stripping started cracking after about 7-10 years.

Re: Yet Another Door Weatherstrip Question!
prp.com. Also, it looks like Blue Oval supplies Precision weatherstripping at a lower cost.
