Hi guys and gals,
Today i decided to get rid of the nasty light purple tint that was on my back window, i couldn't see through it at night.
well the first layer came off with just nicks in the defrost's protective coating. but the layer of glue was stubborn. and once i had killed one line of defroster's coating i said screw it, i need a clean cdlear window.
so now all the protective layer is gone and now just the orange that i guess is the wiring is there.
question is was what i scraped off realy a protective layer or was it there only to keep the defroster from burning up the tint? it was a dark brown light black. i have seen cars that the defroster is orange like mine is now but i bet they atleast have a clear coat to keep moisture from frying the system out.
is any body knowledgable in the littlest about Rear defrost.
OT, But stioll Ford atleast. 89 Cougar/Tbird Rear Defrost?

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

No, the grid is applied to the glass. Did you actually scrape the adhesive or did you use a substance like goo-gone?
I really have no idea, I guess. I suspect that the coating is insulation to make sure that if anything conductive comes in contact with the grid, it won't short out. I guess. Maybe. Does the thing still work?

I heard years ago that there was a dark colored "paint" put over the grid lines to help keep the copper colored lines from distracting the driver. Never looked more into it, as it made sense to me at the time.
