Hi all, I am new to the board and Ford Truck ownership. I just got a 1971 F250 Camper Special.
The PO had two sets of keys for the truck. A set of ignition keys and keys for the gas cap. But I have found out the ignition key does not work on the door. So I am unable to lock it up.
Do I now need to buy a new cylinder for the doors and the ignition?
I have some other questions but will save them until I have finished searching older posts.
Thanks from Albuquerque!

Re: Locking problem
You can have your door lock re-keyed by a locksmith so that the ignition switch key will unlock it. If you are somewhat crafty you can do it yourself as well. That is what I did.

Re: Locking problem
remove the passenger door lock. it has numbers on it. those numbers will giv ethe locksmith the cut cepths of the key. i would take both locks to the locksmith to make sure the one key wokrs both locks. or you can buy a set of just door locks. or you can buy a whole set for doors and ignition switch. and only have one key for the whole truck.

Re: Locking problem
So you took the door lock to the locksmith? Can I ask you how much it costs? I have two keys for my truck. One for the ignition and right side door and one for the driver's door. Gets to be a pain but I really don't lock my truck very often. I don't go that many places where I worry about it and the stuff they might steal inside the truck is worth less than the cost and trouble of replacing either the vent window or side window.

Re: Locking problem
in your case the best thing to do is to remove the door lock and get the number from it and have the ignition switch lock keyed to match the door lock numbers. cost is about 15.00 to 20.00 for that i think. they may just be able to repin your ignition switch by using the door lock key instead. you can also buy a full set already keyed to match for real close to the same price. and no messing around going to the locksmith. i think there is a matching set in the parts for sale section all ready to go.
