OEM Dash pad?

Post by flyboy71 »

I pulled this dash pad from my 72 this weekend. It was spotless before I pulled it and I was amazed how nice it is on the underside too. The truck was made in Canada and the pad is marked to be also so I wonder if its an original? Now Im not sure what to do with it. Id like to reinstall it later but hate to see it deteriorate. Hmmmmmm.

I bought one here from a member from Alaska that was in great shape...It took about four years before I installed it...I made room in a spare closet to store it and threw the wife's wedding dress out in the storage shed with the black widder's...Well, not totally true, but I'd try to find room in the house for it...

I dont know much about the trucks history except that the previous owner two owners ago must have taken good care of it. The truck only has 53k miles on it. Sadly it took front end damage and has a salvage title and bent frame. When I gutted the cab most of the hardware, wiring harness, heater core, seat, etc. were either rust free or had virtually no dust on them at all. The brake pedal mount is still shiny bare metal. This is the first bump Ive disassembled without soaking the thing in PBlaster for a week. I do know its spent its 39+ yrs in PA so the fact that the dash pad didnt crack and fall apart with the temperature extremes is pretty cool.

It's probably a fake. You better send it to New Mexico so I can dispose of it for you!

You know good and well that the only place to legally dispose of a fake dashpad like that is in Washington (very close to my house).

That's enough! I'm calling Myth Buster's. That can't be real. It's gotta be a hoax. There's no such thing as an original dash pad in that good of condition.

I'll trade you a couple half baked ones and a pisspoor repro for it.

Soak that puppy in baby oil and enjoy it on the truck. Keep it soft and it'll last forever. When it dries out it'll crack apart.

good score. they are out there and black is by far the easiest to find. i would do as jamie said and use it. you can buy a cover for it and take off when you drive it.

You know this isnt the only good part that I got off that truck. Most of the truck except the bottom of the cab is like new. This is the salvage truck that I bought from Drytoast that was supposed to be the parts donor but now Im rethinking my approach and considering a mild resto and just rebuilding my 71 using what came off it. The 71 is the first one I bought, paid too much for and all that remains is the chassis. Choices choices.
