Heater box cable operation

Post by Fo-Mo-Co »

Can anyone make me a drawing or get some pictures of how the cables are hooked up and routed? Mine wasn't installed when I got the truck and I can't figure it out. Thanks

Don't know if this will help, but here is a pic out of one of my manuals. I hope the pic gets bigger when clicked on.

It's been a while since taking these pictures so I hope this helps...The connection being pointed out with the ball point pen is the same one to which I'm pointing for both the heat/defrost cables. The cold to hot cable (3rd pic) goes through the firewall to the valve attached to the heater hoses.

Try the salvage yard or someone on here might have one to sell. Anyone recall offhand if the '73-'79's have the same valve?

Go down to the auto parts store. Any of them should have it and it's not terribly expensive. The replacement is plastic, which in my opinion is a good thing. Those original steel ones rust up and don't like to move. I used to work mine with a pair of vise grips because it was so hard to turn. My new plastic one works like a dream.

Good to know...I think I might have one of those hard to turn ones. I'll find out soon as I plan on putting my heater assembly back in. It'll be the first time in since I built the truck!
