ok check these pics out. the trucks without a/c had two holes in the firewall that the heaterhoses went through. when you put in a factory a/c the holes now have to be moved as you can see in the second picture. for the exception of 67 which ive never seen under the hood of one of them alk the trucks i have seen have four holes in the firewall. two are usally plugged. the two that are plugged are the ones that you need to unplug and run the hoses through there to hook to the heater core. if there isn't a heater core in it at all you'll have to split the box open and put one in it. maybe your old one. if it will fit. here are the pics.

and these are the correct holes that the factory a/c exit the firewall. also in this pic you can see the cable that comes out of the firewall that hooks to the valve on the hoses.

you have to take it back out and take the case apart. be careful of the vents. i replaced my core a couple of years ago and when i was putting it back in i knocked one of the vents out. in order to fix it i have to take it back out well guess what i still haven't done it. but be carefull. there are a few bolts that will have to come out to open the case up.

re: Underdash A/C unit
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that factory A/C unit needs to be almost completely disassembled to get to the heater core. Back on Oct. 30th I spent the day in the shop tearing one of these down. I took a bunch of pictures and got started putting together a page, but got sidetracked and haven't finished it up. I'll mess around with it a little more tonight and see if I can't have it ready to post either tonight or maybe tomorrow night.
However, like I said, it's a lot of work. But look at the bright side: when you do get it replaced, you'll be very qualified to answer any questions about the unit, since you're going to have first-hand experience on a complete disassembly.

re: Underdash A/C unit
I guess I was a little farther along on the page than I thought. It didn't take much to finish it up, with what I had to work with. I didn't have any notes so I was pretty much going by memory and referencing the photos. When I start disassembling the second unit to use for parts, I'm going to take some detailed notes and will post a tech page tutorial about replacing the heater core. Take a look here:

re: Underdash A/C unit
First pic you can see where they are broken. This is the only problem with the entire unit other than some bent and dirty fins. This will give me a little time and opportunity to fix and clean the fins and the entire unit .

First I split it down the middle with a very large hammer, , wanted to. there are screws that hold it together EVERYWHERE. Then I had to take the A/C coil out just 6 screws there.

Then, there is a plate on top of the heater core. Oh, and 4 more screws holding the core in. Now do you see why I used the drill . It is all apart now and ready to be cleaned and refurbished. Now to find a new heater core.
