eliminating a/c
has anyone eliminated the factory a/c that came with thier truck. i would like to do this to my 69 but i'm not sure where to begin, or what all i have to remove. i would like it to look nice and not all hacked up when i'm done. so if anyone has done this let me know what you did and how it looked whern you were done.

Re: eliminating a/c
I pulled the inside/cab AC console off to get leg room...mine ran from just right of the steering wheel under the dash over to the heat outlet in the middle of the hump. Freed up room to put a speaker up high on the hump. Then I pulled all the hoses under the dash, plugged the two firewall holes for hoses to the cab console, pulled the compressor and hoses from there to the radiator piece. Much cleaner under the hood and easier access for stuff like setting the timing. I'm going to try an in-cab evap cooler that I've seen online, since I'm west of the dryline for evap cooling and almost 4000 ft. above sea level...it runs off the cig lighter outlet and sits on the hump...supposedly lowers cab temps enough for summer driving. That's my next project...by the time I get to it, the first freeze will be just around the corner.

Re: eliminating a/c
it depends on which a/c you have dealer or factory. the factory box is heater and a/c all in one. so you will have to replace the box with a non a/c box. you will also need the non a/c heater controls.
it unbolts from the firewall with three nuts remove two heater hoses. unplug the electrical. degas the a/c lines. un do the a/c lines. remove the box. remove the lines in the enigne compartment and pull them through the firewall with the a/c box.
for underdash degas the a/c remove the lines disconnect the electrical. unbotl the a/c from the dash.
for both systems. remove the belt from the a/c remove the compressor remove the condensor in front of the radiator.

Re: eliminating a/c
i believe it is the factory version, but can i eliminate the a/c parts of it and leave the box or do i have to get a non a/c box? if i have to go the non a/c box and controls, i cant find them anywhere so maybe i can use what i have but just eliminate the a/c parts to it...fordman wrote:it depends on which a/c you have dealer or factory. the factory box is heater and a/c all in one. so you will have to replace the box with a non a/c box. you will also need the non a/c heater controls.

Re: eliminating a/c
The heater plenum (box) for just a heater core would be an easy find. And only has I believe four nuts holding it into the cab, (gotten to on the firewall side). I'd take the time and care to pull the factory A/C plenum as it will sell for you to help fund your truck build!if i have to go the non a/c box and controls, i cant find them anywhere so maybe i can use what i have but just eliminate the a/c parts to it...

Re: eliminating a/c
thers not much reason to remove part of the a/c and leave the box i wouldnt think. the box is all one piece. it will still be in the cab even if you just disconnect it. yes they can be sold. shipping and packaging is fun. but it can be done. i did it. it was a job to package it up. but i got it done. and it made the trip all the way to canada through seatle from kansas.
