Seat Belts

Post by sharkdog »

Just wondering if there was ever a middle seat belt offered on these trucks? my 1970 f-100 has the driver/passenger lap belts but no middle one. Also does anyone no where I might be able to get one?

thanks Peter

Most 67-72 F100 and 250's with bench seats I've seen have a middle set. Very common, try any wrecking yard with these series trucks. The two middle fasteners will have two belts each, held on with a torx-head bolt. The 73-up may work as well.

I went to Oreilly and picked up a universal seat belt. I used the original seat belt bolts and just added the new ones on to them.

My '69 with factory buckets has a middle seat/storage space that has a seat belt. I'm not sure the middle seat is original but the belt matches the others in the truck.

My current '69 F250, and the '69 F100 I leaned to drive on, both were absent the middle seat belts. It drives me nuts to not be able to (safely) carry more than one passenger in my truck, so I know how you feel...

My goal is to extract a floor-mounted-belt-retractor, 3-point seat-belt set from a late-'70s or early '80s donor vehicle - I think '79-'89 Mustang belts will mount up without modification? The top-mount-retractor sets from the '70s and '80s trucks would require modification to work. Floor-mount-retractor universal sets are also available from dozens of after-market shops online (US-Belt makes a nice looking universal 3-point set for under $90/pr - $25/single for universal 2-point set).

Once I find a good 3-point set for driver and passenger, I'll liberate the middle set as well (if it exists), buy an aftermarket 2-point set, or move the passenger male connector to the driver's middle anchor (and hope it is long enough to reach under the seat-back) which will bring my truck up to specs for better safety, and ability for 3 people to be in the cab with some measure of safety.
