Upgraded Door Panel Trim

Post by jth1978 »

Hi all, in the middle of a complete restoration to a 72 longbed. I have decided to dresss up the interior and splurge for upgraded door panel trim.

Are the 69 and 70 panels compatible with a 72? Specifically I am looking at the ones offered on National Parts Depot

Thx again.

Yep. The differences are only in the trim level, Custom, Sport Custom, Ranger or Ranger XLT. '67 is the only odd man out.

Useing 69 metal panels on a 72 doors new holes need to be drilled, the screw holes are in different places and 72 didnt come with a trim ring so holes need to be drilled for them also.

now wait. the chrom trim is the same on all the 67-72 trucks. the door panels are all the same from 68-72 67 is a one year only door panel. in 1970 though. the doors changed. on the inside only. the doors that came with the cardboard panels only had the holes to clip on the cardboard panels. but they didnt have the extra holes for the steel panels. or maybe the trim. lets see what i have as far as pictures. i need to refresh my memory on this a little.

edit. here is where i found the differences inside the door panel. whatever i posted in this quote and the pictures wil show what holes need to be added to the 70 and up doors.
fordman wrote:ah well i got three things kind of done. they are done. but i should have gotten more done. i got the heater controls in. i also got the parking brake cable fished up through the cab mount and hooked up. i also got the brake pedal rod to the master cylinder on. but i had to remove the whole pedal. to try and fix the brake pedal switch. the little springy thing that holds the switch in broke. i tried putting it back in upside down but it just wouldnt work without several washers. so i took the pedal off to bring it home and try to fix it. the fix i thought of on the way home is to throw away the springy thing. and put the switch in where it need to be. and then put a hose clamp on the top part of the switch so the switch will stay into the hole.
if you notice the doors are different. one is from a 69 and the other a 71. the 71 has extra hoels in the inner door to mount
the fiberboard door panels with. the 69 doors dont have the holes. since i am putting fiberboard panels in this truck. i will have to drill the 69 door to accept the inner door panels. here are the pics i took this evening.
