Carpet Installation

Post by 72f100 »

I've received the carpet that I ordered from JCW and am ready to install!

Have any of you done this before? How exactly did you put it in? Glue or no glue? Besides having to trim it are there any other modifications necessary? Whatever pointers you have would be wonderful!

Thanks,
Matt

did you get a full cab carpet or just a half cab. On the full cab you need to pull the seat out to do it right. I would use glue, not sure what type, and make sure that you get it spread evenly so that none of it lifts anywhere.

I would be inclined to NOT use adhesive. I might not be a good one to listen to on this topic because my truck has a mat. But when I replaced both the cars upholstery they are all formed so I used no glue and you can't tell. Then if you need to pull it up for some reason it won't tear the backing apart.
:hmm:
But the truck doesn't have kick panels to hold the corners down. Maybe some vinyl top spray adhesive in the corners??

I wouldn't use glue. The carpet in new cars isn't glued down.

I don't know what kind of carpeting you got,but if it doesn't have the padding already attached, you'll want to put some in...Otherwise you'll have lots of road noise and it'll be hard on your feet, wear out quicker, etc. ...The door sill plates hold the carpet down pretty well...The trouble with the one I installed was that it was about a 1" too short from kick panel to kick panel...If you have black carpet, you could always use a couple of drywall screws to hold it down at strategic locations...The other difficulty I had was trying to slide it underneath that fiberboard firewall cover....If that snaps loose(from the engine bay side),the carpet probably would have slid underneath it easier...
This is the point...I'm....talking about everybody! I'm talking about form! I'm talking about content! I'm talking about interrelationships! I'm talking about God, the devil, hell, heaven!!!! Do you understand???? Finally!!!!

The carpet does have the padding already attached and it is black. My carpet is 2" to long from panel to panel. I guess that's a better problem than to short.

One more question. How did you work around the problem of the shift rod? Did you remove it?

I would remove it and reinstall it after the carpet is in.

I did JCW Carpet myself way back when I first got my Truck in 89, still had original rubber mat when I bought it. No Glue, but yes you take everything out -good time to clean & rust prevent the floorboard, and some extra noise deadening pad is good, the product was actually very good, better than what I put in a couple years ago (ACC I beleive). I hope you are using a darker color - I got silver this last time and Big Mistake - looks like crap already.

Yes, I have everything out and cleaned up.

Everything is set except for the shift rod. I have the 3 speed on the column. Anyone know how it comes out?
