I went into a local car stereo guy asking for Metra install kits. He did not sell the Metra line, but sold Scosche. We looked through the Scosche catalogue and after ~ 20 minutes we figured the VO41641 kit was the appropriate substitution (see http://www.scosche.com/scosche/installa ... O41461.asp).
He ordered it for me and it arrived in 3 days . First problem was the package was labeled VO41461B. It was missing the very interesting metal back clip you see in the catalogue and on-line. But for C$14.00 I figured it was worth the gamble. (dealer invoice was C$11.75)
I'm going to install it this weekend so I'll let you know if there are problems #2 or #3.
Interestingly, when I opened the package I looked over the part...what do I see...the part is "stamped" with the Metra logo and part #99-9200. Which is the DIN mount part from the Metra kit that is discussed in these forums (99-9222).
Cheers,
Bill

Looking forward to the finished photos, I'm getting ready to install some tunes and was wondering what the Volvo bracket looked like mounted.

re: Alternate to the Metra kit
Does anyone here have experience fabricating new items? I know customcrewcab does, anyone else. A new face plate made to match the original look of the dash, but for mounting modern stereos would be nice. Maybe someone could make a new part for us?????

re: Alternate to the Metra kit
Finished install.
Man these kits are GREAT!!! It fits perfectly, it is easy to secure with self-tapping screws. Biggest problem was man-handling the of old AM deck out. (remove glove box liner and right side defrost hose first).
See attached.
The deck I have is quite "crappy" but is has a CD input for the portable MP3 or CD/MP3 walkman (Bonus for me).
Only thing left is to decide where I'll put the speakers!?!?
Cheers,
Bill

that is one idea for the ashtray roodaddy. Never thought of using it as an inverter or recepticle space.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

re: Alternate to the Metra kit
Radio looks great . As for the speakers, I mounted mine in the headliner, doesn't look bad and sounds great.
