Hey all i have a question about the selector valve for the dual fuel tanks that is on the driverside floor in the cab. I have done some research about this valve and have not come up with a final answer.
My problem is that the valve is leaking a bit of fuel inside the cab, it smells of gasoline inside the cab. Some members on here have said it can be rebuilt, you can just buy an aftermarket one and it will work fine, or you can buy an electric setup.
I would like to keep the original one if at all possible, i do plan to search at the local wrecking yard for one, however that is a gamble because i could end up in the same boat im already in.
In rebuilding the valve are there rubber seats or seals? if so regular rubber will not work due to the C#@&y fuel we now use. I have yet to remove the valve because i want to know more about it.
Any advice or information would be helpful.

Andy, I had mine apart a little more than a year ago getting my truck ready for the 1K mile move here. As I remember there is a "compression" type nut that tightens over the shaft/stem assembly, and that there was an "O" ring underneath that? :hmm:
I could be wrong but it seems I had to replace the "O" ring on mine already. I've had to do so...much to my truck the past 8 years or so. :lol:

Are you sure the leak is in that selector switch? The reason I ask is that the selector switch shaft runs down thru the truck floor to the actual 3-way switch "valve" on the fuel line(s) plumbing under the cab. I don't think the fuel line(s) come up into the cab at the switch (but I could be wrong about that :oops: ). It is more likely that the filler tube / gaskets on your in-cab tank are getting old and cracked, and leaking fumes into your cab.

I have a 1972 F250 with two saddle tanks and a in-cab tank behind the seat. That "3-way valve" under the cab is leaking on mine (very slow drip onto the ground), and I was wondering how to go about repairing that leak, too. I, too, am reluctant to tear into that valve assembly without knowing what I may be getting myself into! Perhaps some more knowledgable folks out there can confirm that simply replacing the whole switch / valve is the best route to take.....unless the leak "fix" is a relatively simple one.....like replacing a seal or two. :pray:

thanks for the replies guys, the electric switch is looking favorable to me.
there is a small amount of fuel coming out of the stem,
anyways i will make something work!!
