Cold ride, new heater core

Post by fonfixer »

I got a new heater core this past weekend, just in time because we got our first frost last night. I wasn't planning on driving the '67 just yet, but since my son totaled my '03 Thanksgiving day I have not choice, and even with a working heater I still froze my butt off! My feet just now warmed up. Any thoughts though as to why the defroster would only work on the passenger side?

I believe there is a hose the runs from the distribution of the core to the defroster plenum. On my 1965 Mustang, the hose would slip off and direct air over the wiring. Take a look into that, it is one possibility.

The two defrost hoses were dry rotted, so i did the redneck fix and wrapped them in duct tape, need the truck for work today. The hoses are "good". Since the that first post I got to thinking if the fresh air intake is blocked, I think that would cause my trouble. Have to check that this afternoon before the drive home. It's good to be able to talk a problem through.

Sounds about right on the fresh air being plugged, (an air hose and a shop vac make easy work of this). I'd also look at both the dampers real close while you're under there, (Make sure the controls are moving the cables and the cables are moving the damper linkeage rods freely:

A trick I learned from the Escort and Focus forums to make the heater core last longer; ground it to the cab. A ground wire can be secured with a narrow hose clamp to the inlet or outlet pipe, and grounded to the cab. Helps prevent corrosion/electrolosis, Ford has a couple of TSB's for this on some vehicles.
