Got the motor pulled and some of the frame painted!

Parts Coming In Today
1. Engine Gasket Kit
2. Hi Performance Water Pump
Parts Coming Soon
1. 2 Inch Body Lift (Cheaper Than Buying Factory Bushings)
2. Front Cab Mounts Driver and Passenger Side

I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story!

Can you do a body lift like this, in place of the factory bushings? If so, anyone know where to get inexpensive body lift kits that will do the rad support, cab and bed?

I got mine from here. SuspensionConnection.com

So today and yesterday I got a lot done the motor is on a stand completely stripped. I took the springs on the front end off and all the shocks, sanded and pressure washed all of that. I am going to start painting the front half of the frame tomorrow. and start putting the old girl back together.

I am sitting here waiting on a welder to get here so that I can get the front cab mounts put on the truck and get my Motor Mount fixed.

On another note cleaning the motor block has been a giant pain the rearend. I still don't have it cleaned and have pressure washed it and cleaned it with a wire brush, and a wire wheel on a drill. I bought the cleaner from POR15 and it still isn't cutting through it. But I will keep plugging along at it.

I also have the oil pan soaking I don't know if it will help with the old Cork seal, but that thing is glued on there too and is not coming off so easily. Anyhow that is where I am at right now and will have more updates tomorrow because today I am done. I am taking my wife out on a Date because as of yesterday we have been married for 4 years!

Thanks Jeff

The start removal of the bearing cap.

Image

Took out the two bolts, than had to turn the motor right side up and tap the bearing cap back and forth until it worked out of its little spot.

Here is a shot with it out.

Image

The cap itself with the bolts on the work bench.

Image

Removal of the bottom part of the seal (that goes around the bearing) I just grabbed it with a set of needle nose pliers and hoped that it didn't break. Came right out with no issues.

The Lower Old Seal.

The Upper Old Seal

Starting clean up of the bearing case.

The new Lower Seal Lubed Up.

The Motor Portion Cleaned Up.

Image

A little Extra Protection Against Leakage

Image

The Install Was Pretty Easy. Lube Up The Side Bearing Cap Seals, set them in and than put it all together. Once there in put in the little seal rods using a hammer. My side seals where a little low so it said to put some sealant on them as well.

Now I just need to know what to torque the two bolts down to and I will be good to go.

Good day Ford4x4Fun!

Thanks so much for these great photos! Since this is a common repair I'm sure they'll come in handy for folks, myself included perhaps.

Woods is right on the cap bolts! The 1972 Ford shop manual says 95-105 ft/lbs. Here's the FE torque spec page, which is 21-23-32. Click on it for a version you can actually read:

Note to self...

They make more than one diameter nozzle for a sand blaster... The smallest one doesn't work for spraying walnut media! So if anyone else has this problem don't spend 3 hours trying to fix something that isn't broke...

I hope that is the problem anyhow will let you know when my wife gets back with the new nozzles!

Don't know if it is moisture in my tank or what, but my sand blaster doesn't like walnut shell media... Anyone else ever have this problem? It just keeps plugging the nozzle

Could be the moisture. I use a old Sears model. Just a plastic pot with a suction hose on the bottom and a $10 gun pushing 100psi @ about 10cfm. I tried some of that play sand from Home Depot but my gun wouldn't pull it. I use Black Diamond Fine Fury from Tractor Supply. It's a 30-60 grit coal slag media and my gun pulls it just fine. The coal slag doesn't hold moisture like sand does. Surface finish isn't too rough and it cuts through gunk pretty good too.

'Afternoon Ford4x4Fun,

I love these photos you've posted lately! It looks like a lot happening in a short amount of time.

Do you have any air driers installed between your compressor and your blaster? I guess different compressors produce different amounts of water in the air, yet with the setup I've used before two cheap Sears driers in series were essential to avoid moisture-related clogs. The driers were about $50 each.

And I heartily second Sargentrs's Black Diamond recommendation. That stuff is a lot cheaper than anything else I've found, and it really works well. It's all I'd consider using anymore. But it's certainly a lot more harsh than the walnut shells.
