Plastic door panel question
Did the plastic door panels come on all trucks or just a certain package ? I am in process of re-installing the west coast mirrors on my 68 F250 CS and really like the look of the door without the plastic panel but also want to keep the truck looking as original as possible. Unfortunately, the plastic panels and arm rests I removed are not original, oh well. The upside, the paint on the original door panel is great and they must have been covered their entire life.

Re: Plastic door panel question
I've seen 4 different door panel options;
metal panels
metal panels+bright perimeter trim
metal panel+plastic panel+bright trim
metal panel+vinyl insert+bright trim.
3 different metal panels;
plain
1 set of holes for metal trim
2 sets of holes for metal trim and vinyl inserts
There were many trim level options, dealer and regional promotions-many involved different trim levels. It also seems some trucks were fitted with whatever was on hand during assembly.
Nice to find good original paint under that plastic.

Re: Plastic door panel question
Thanks for the reply. I do have a Ranger with the plastic inserts and the trim around the plastic inserts My inserts, steering column and wheel are all off white as well as 80% of my seat which I just had re-upholstered. Wish I would have looked at the door panels before I had the seat re-upholstered. OH well, everything will be good either way. Thought about painting the metal door panels Wimbledon white to match and for the contrast but may just keep the plastic panels. We will see

Re: Plastic door panel question
On my 71 SportCustom there was no metal panel at all stock. It was black vinyl over hardboard or something like that with a plastic chrome band running around it.
I have since put the metal panels on there with the chrome band running around it as I couldn't find a replacement when I was restoring her.

Re: Plastic door panel question
On my '69 Ranger the door panels are made of some sort of cardboard/fiberboard covered with vinyl and a woodgrain panel below the armrest. Like the one in the top pic, just black.
