Dash speaker

Post by Mancar1 »

I went ahead and ordered a 140 watt stereo dual voice coil speaker from Metro for the 68's dash. The only thing the dual voice means from what I read is that the cones are a little bigger. I am going to order the USA 630 vintage look stereo and CD changer from Custom Auto. Their price was better than Metro.
What I didn't like about Metro, and I told them about it. Is that they showed shipping as 0 until the order was accepted and placed. Then it showed shipping. Led me to believe that shipping was included even though that wasn't stated. I don't mind paying shipping, but tell me what it is. Do not be sneaky about it.
 I have been bitching. Guess I was somewhat upset. Ahhhhh, I feel better now.
I told them via e-mail. Now for the phone call

So many folks doing stuff like this nowadays John. :nono: They must not sleep well at night though, (the CEO's that ok these less than honest policies). :(
I do remember a mounting "challenge" on my dash mounted speaker. Can't remember exactly what it was-but it was not normal. Maybe someone else can chime in here that's done one? :hmm:

Thanks Jeff. Yes, anytime I mail order something I am always expecting to modify. When all works well I am really happy.

It seemed like the original "football" dash speak was just a little smaller than the 6" X 9" that I mounted? :hmm:

Received my speaker yesterday, and it is a little smaller than the original. It will fit with a modification. Should be receiving the USA 630 stereo and CD changer any day now. Hope the radio fits as advertised.
When I make my wood door panels out of 3/4" stock I am going to add speakers in the doors.
Have my wood panel overhead cut out. Now to stain, coat it and install. Going to make a different wood console for the CD changer and drink holders to replace the one that has the 4 speakers in it.
One of these days I may tackle making one of the wood steering wheels, or maybe trying to trade my nice original one for a wooden one.
Now I know what a dual voice speaker is.

I actually spoke with a salesman at Custom Audio once about the replacement dash stereo speakers, he said that they have had so many calls about ill fitment, that he doesn't even recommend them anymore. I was disappointed because I was looking formard to getting one. I was actually looking at the dual speaker application rather than the dual cone version. Maybe by the time I get to order mine, they will have it straightened out.

I will check the fit either today or tomorrow and let you know how it goes. I put it side by side with my original and it appears that is is a smaller size.
