Hi all, I'm kinda new here. Been scanning all the great info for a few months now and found a wealth of knowledge here. I've been slowly piecing together a 71' F250 Ranger XLT that was missing quite a few parts when I got it. Really didn't notice all that was missing until I bought another 71' F250 Custom that was an unmolested survivor. So one get's stripped to fix another.
The XLT had factory AC/heater(so AC/Heat controls in dash). The AC/heater unit was removed by a PO. I've pulled the heater out of the Custom with no AC and wanted to swap it into the XLT. Will the AC/heater control work with the just heater unit? Or should I just remove the controls from the custom also?
The factory holes for the AC unit are a little different from the just heater unit but all just heater holes are there with rubber plugs, so the unit will go in with no problem, just have to plug other holes. Atleast from what I've been able to see.
Is there anything I'm missing and this wont work? I really need the defroster to work.

Stop by over at The Welcome Mat (http://www.fordification.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=1) and introduce yourself!!
To address your question, the A/C control panel may work (not sure, but it won't be correct and you'll have at least one extra cable), but it will be much easier to swap in the correct control from the heater-only truck.
The A/C truck will also have different wiring, so if you've got the correct wiring harness, swap that in too to make it easier.
Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools talk because they have to say something.--Plato
Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???
That's not an oil leak
That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

Re: Heater controls AC to non AC
Thanks 70_F100, I did grab the wiring harness also. The AC harness was removed with the unit as well.
I think I will just remove the controls to be safe. Kind of wanted to keep the AC controls. I still have the condensor, hoses and pump for the AC unit and was hoping to replace with another AC unit, but have had no luck in locating the pieces I need for a decent price. Now I just need the defrost so I can use this truck in the mornings.
