Jute pad or something more modern?

Post by 91Bear »

When my floor mat was replaced after repainting, I don't think a replacement jute pad was put under it. Would you recommend something with more insulating/sound dampening properties or just go with the original jute pad?

The original "jute" pad was horse hair. I would for sure put something down. Here's Robroy's thread that details his installation of Zilla-mat. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =6&t=59182 From what he describes I would do something like that for the sound, and then add normal jute pad on top for added sound and temp control.

I seen a product that I am going to use in our truck. It is called Lizard Skin. I have no personal experience with it so I am just going on what I have read. They have a heat shield and a sound deadener. They spray on thin. You can use either or both but if you use both they say to spray the heat shield on first. I would then use some form of pad under the carpet.

I have purchased carpeting for my crew cab and purchased the jute to go with it. But I am also following Robroy's lead and purchased a box of ZillaMat and will be putting that down first. I have not done it yet so I cannot speak from first hand experience, but there are enough people on here that have, and youtube videos of people who have so you can read and actually see/hear the results. I think some sort of heat/sound mat under the jute mat is the way to go.

I put down bed liner in the floor of my cab for durability. I wonder if Zilla-mat would stick to it.

I bought a roll of Zilla, tried it first on the back of the door panels. Very good quality adhesive, the mat is flexible and molds well to contours. I dont like anything that might absorb water placed under a floor mat or carpeting, and I would bet the Zilla or other products would offer detter damping while being moisture resistant. Moisture in the cab might not be so much of a concern in Texas, but here in the rainy NW, the near constant rain and humidity is a problem!

I thing the Zilla would stick to bed-liner as well if it was relatively smooth. You might try getting a small sample and test. I've still got a buch, let me know if you need a test piece.

Really nice truck you have there!
