1967 courtesy lights

Post by kaliona »

I've been trying to figure out why my dome light doesn't go on when I open the doors. After downloading the wiring diagrams I found out the dome light is controlled by a courtesy light switch in both doors. I checked my doors and the switches aren't there. I see the two mounting holes where they should be. Did all years and models come standard with these switches? I thought I would at least see the Blue/Black wires that would have gone to the switches in the jamb, but nothing's there. There are a few late 60's early 70's trucks at my local pick and pull so I thought I'd look for the switches there. Should any switch from any of the other model years work?

Advise on looking up under the dash. The PO probably stuffed the wiring for the switches back into the cab area, (they exit the cab area up high under the dash on each side). I wouldn't waste time with used switches unless you found dent era switches and the harness on the switch also. Out trucks switches seem to have a weak point-which is the small pinned harness. I've found they tend to fail at the harness. Changing my switches and harnesses to dent era has been on my wish list for awhile now. And both DC and NPD sell new repopped switches.

Don't buy the switches from LMC. I bought some and had to send them back. The plungers were too long and the doors would not close.

Thanks for the tips on the dent side switches. I'll look for them, if available in the junk yard before I purchase repops. So sounds like any switch from any F100, 150, 250 or 350 will work in a '67 F100?

I can't say this for sure, as I haven't done the swap with mine yet, but they should. Find one of each in the boneyard to compare-so you'll see the mounting difference. I haven't seen a new repopped bump era switch yet that was worth $2 IMO. :2cents:

I orderedmy switches from lmc and they work fine...most switches that you are going to find at the junkyard are going to be all rotted and crack very easily...I'd recommend new ones
