COM shift lever.

Post by icecreamfireman »

My '67 f100 had the original 352 / cruise-o-matic. The motor died, and was beyond repair, so I found another '67 with the same engine/transmission both of which had been rebuilt. I pulled the original engine / transmission together with no problem. When pulling the "new" engine / transmission together, something caught on the shift lever and broke it off. Is there any way to fix this? It's a clean break, so maybe welded? Please tell me I'm not totally effed. :-)

Why not swap levers between the two transmissions? Are you talking about the lever on the trans?

Yes,the small lever on the side of the tranny that the shift linkage connects to. I looked but it didn't look like there was any way to take them off. Did I miss it?

You have to pull the pan off to remove the nut that holds the selector shaft in. I haven't been in an MX trans in about 20 years so I don't remember if you have to remove the valve body or not.
Welding the lever back onto the shaft while still in the trans case will toast the seal and will require pulling the shaft out anyway to replace the seal.
