Weatherstrip Install
Ready to order and install new door opening weatherstrips. Any particular vendor better than others? Install looks fairly straight forward, any do's or don'ts ?

Re: Weatherstrip Install
I like the Precision Brand the best I bought a set from LMC and it only lasted a couple years before it started to split and tear, Get some really good 3M weatherstrip glue/ I used the yellow and love it, Pre-fit it first and take your time installing it, You'll need plenty of cloths pins or some type of clamps to hold it in place after you've glued it, do about 3 feet sections at a time, Check it over and over to make sure that its stayed in place, after one section is done and dried move onto the next section. Whoops, I got ahead of myself make sure before you start that the old stuff is removed and the lip is pretty much clean, you also might want to have some type of thinner around for cleanup, fingers ect. theres always gonna be glue squirting out onto your new rubber but, I've found that just taking your time and doing little sections at a time works best, Good luck!

Comparing the Precision weatherstrip to an NOS set, the Precision is a tad bit thicker. Also the years of use has squished the original to it's own "set". You might need to adjust the door-latch striker out a tad so doors will close without slamming. After the foam rubber relaxes a bit, readjust so doors fit flush. Rolling down a window before shutting will also help. At least that's what I had to do!

Re: Weatherstrip Install
Thanks for the input, i found the precision brand to be half the price of LMC. I may just get the whole kit. Gotta put the windows in to. The clothes pin tip sounds good, have to pick some up. Don't have the doors done yet, figured it would take a bit to set.

Re: Weatherstrip Install
Curious myself as to where to buy the precision brand as my truck sorely could use a set, and I'd rather get a good set from the get go, than install junk and have to do it over again.

I bought a complete Precision weatherstrip kit from JC Whitney in the 90's, might be worth a look.

Re: Weatherstrip Install
Terry1167-----you have any leads for the window seals don't known what they are called exactly. But it would be the weather stripping for the doors.
Or if anyone else has a place to purchase these please let me know thanks

Re: Weatherstrip Install
I bought mine from lmc. Wasn't very happy with the fit. Got my weather stripping from Mac's I think. If you use the black 3m glue you won't see it as well as the yellow and it sets up pretty quick. Just double check the length before you cut it (don't ask me how I know this).
