Steel Door Panel Clips

Hi all, first post but have been reading the forum alot during the refurb of my 1972 Sport Custom, saphire green/Wimbledon White. The original all vinyl green door panels without the steel panel behind it has seen its better days. I acquired some metal door panels with the stainless trim ring and had them painted to match the green paint. I have the clips that attach the trim ring to the steel door panel but I need the fasteners to attach the steel door panel to the door. I seen in other post the discussion about j-clips but cannot figure out what size and where to get them.

My question is what clip do I use to install the metal door panels to the door?

Can someone post a picture of one both installed and uninstalled?

Better yet, a part number from a vendor? I have checked all the common vendors; LMC, DC, NPD, Mac

Thanks for the photos they, they are just what I needed. They also helped me figure out that I have two different doors on my truck as well and that the 72 door will have to have some holes drilled for the metal trim clips to go through for me to add the metal panels to a door that was manufactured for vinyl fiberboard panel only. I have a pick and pull here in Tucson that I will try to get to this weekend to see if I can find some clips.

Man, thanks for that post. Do you know how long I've been trying to figure out how I was supposed to attach my metal door panels on my '71 F250? I thought it would be a plastic push-in nut. This is a fantastic discovery, thanks again.

I went to Ace Hardware and found the J-Nuts and bolts I needed to put together the door. After a fresh paint on the truck I am reassembling. I found the steel door panels on E-bay and was able to get the to the paint shop before the rest of the truck was completed so they match now. The anti-rattle was a pain and the drivers door will require a do-over for the outer scraper. Below is a couple pictures of the new doors.


After painting and adding steel panels with trim, new arm rest.


Before paint with old panels. The chrome tape is coming off and the arm rest is worn out.

Great job and looks awesome!! I have a question though as it is something that I have been wondering and haven't gotten around to asking yet, but your thread presents the perfect opportunity.

Regarding the metal trim piece on the door panel. I have taken mine all apart and took my trim panels off of all 4 of my doors. They were held on with the factory push pins that go into the holes and appear to have been held in place originally with some sort of expanding spray foam. How did you get your trim clips to hold in place when you put it back together? When I pushed mine into the holes after I took them out, there is nothing that holds them in there.

The arm rest are off white. As far as the trim clips go, mine were still useable. I have now finished the truck and will post it in the projects forum.
