Putting in a new speaker
I just bought a new speaker to replace the old one for my 72 f100. Can I tie a switch into the speaker wire to switch from iPod hookup to back to radio? Will an iPod run the speaker without installing an amp? Any suggestions?

It's not worth it. You will not be able to hear it when you are driving, expecially if you are looking for a stereo sound, it may power one, but pushin two is like trying to blow up two baloons at once. Go with an amp, it doesn't need to be a nice one, just make sure it has a good ground. You don't want any alternator whine.
As for the switch you are going to want skip that. Rather than put in a switch just run an extra set of input wires from the amp to plug your ipod into. NEVER RUN BOTH AT THE SAME TIME! Never even have your ipod plugged in while your stereo is on... if you choose this setup. It all just seems awfully complicated considering you could find a cheap deck ($50) with an auxillary input that would eliminate the need for extra wires, a switch or even an amp. You have a lot of options, I can think of a few more ways to do it if you'd like

I agree with Mike R. Get a stereo that lets you plug in an aux device or an iPod/iPhone. Then you don't have to worry about screwing up your iPod.
And even if you could, and you put in a switch, I wouldn't try to power the speakers directly from an iPod. The iPod is designed to drive earbuds, not full-sized speakers, and it would probably sound like junk if you don't use an amp.
