Need help with VIN plate

Post by Norton »

My VIN indicates that my truck should bean F250 4WD (F26) which it is. My trans code is A (NP 435) but my axle code is B4 which is a 4.10 5200# Dana 60 limited slip. There is no front axle code. How can this be? Am I missing something?

At a glance your GVW is low so you get the little front axle. The 7700 trucks got the big axle.

Found the BOM tag and cleaned it up. It's DITA DA 603244-2 4.09, so it's a d44.

Thanks.

They all had 44 fronts. The light trucks got the little 44, the heavy trucks got the big 44. The difference is most apparent in the knuckles and trunnions. The hubs are obviously different too, but there isn't a real strength difference with either the internal or external hubs used on the light or heavy axles respectively.

OK, thanks Joe. It was unclear to me because the "decoding your VIN" page here listed only two front axle options -- the Dana 30 (which I've not heard of) and the Dana 44F. Anyway, just needed to know what I had. I hate being ignorant of my own truck components. I only use 4WD as needed, which is rarely, so I'm sure what I have will be sufficient.
