Hey guys. I am hearing a grinding noise in my trans and/or clutch. It only happens when I am floundering about between 2nd and reverse trying to get out of the tight parking area behind my house, or the lot at the store...... (I don't use first as it's a granny). When I had the tranny out for the flywheel job I made sure to replace the clutch then. I am wondering if my extremely loose shifter has anything to do with it? Maybe it's trying to slip into gear before I get the clutch down? How does one tighten the shifter on these??? There didn't appear to be a cap that unscrews or anything around the shifter, looked like there is a pin in each side at the base, but I can't see how they'd come out. Any suggestions??
Thanks!

Re: grinding in transmission
I'm guessing you have a T18 trans?
Check Robroy's thread on his T18 shifter (he always provides pics and a lot of information)....> http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =4&t=44203

Re: grinding in transmission
With the truck running in neutral you should be able to push in the clutch and put the transmission in first or reverse without any grinding. If it grinds the clutch is not releasing all the way or the pilot bushing is dry and dragging the input shaft. Is the clutch adjusted?

It's not the clutch... it shifts fine, I drove some more today and it happens when my foot is off the clutch and am "between gears"

Does it go away if you put your hand on the shifter to take away the shifter rattle?

Re: grinding in transmission
Read the post that I added from Robroy. Sounds like you shifter is wore out. Obviously check the fluid level also.
