Transmission & Fuel Economy

Post by 68FORDJBM »

I'm pulling the motor out of my truck for a a rebuild and was wondering if I should consider pulling, rebuilding or upgrading the C6 automatic 3 speed transmission to a 4 or 5 speed - if that is possible pr worth the effort.

Nothing wrong with the current tranny - except some leaking. It's just that I will have access to it and now might be the time to make a change if its worth the effort and $. Someone planted the idea that pulling the engin and tranny together is much easier and a tranny overhaul might get me closer to my goal of increasing gas milage.

Don't know what engine you have but check out this article from custom classic trucks. If you drive on the highway much and have the money I would look into an overdrive wil save both your truck and your body with the lower engine rpms. http://www.customclassictrucks.com/tech ... index.html
