Installing trans without torque converter

I have several threads going in different sections as I am trying to start my 68 with a 240. I have (borrowing from a friend) a C4 trans from a 74 mustang. I am thinking of mounting the C4 to the motor without installing the torque converter. I will not have any linkage hooked up and I will not have a driveshaft installed. I am simply using this transmission to bolt the starter in and act as the third support for the motor.

Without the torque converter there is nothing actually enganging the motor & trans toghether, right?...So, I'm thinking it should be fine.

I don't want to spend the time / money filling the trans & converter with fluid, installing the converter, and bolting it to the flywheel only to find that the motor won't start. At the same time, this is a buddy's trans that I do not want to damage.

Let me know your thoughts.

Shouldnt do any damage at all to the trans or engine.

SOLD-71 F-350 dually flatbed, 302 / .030 over V-8 with a "baby"C-6, B & M truckshifter, Dana70/4.11 ratio, intermittent wipers, tilt steering, full LED lighting on the flat bed, and no stereo yet (this way I can hear the rattles to diagnose)! SOLD!
Many Ford bumps / one 76' EB / and several dents through the years.

- still got my first first car 20+yrs later : 69 f100 sorta kinda pretending its a Mercury M100 w/a 70 f350 sport custom cab (factory buckets) 67 grille with 69 ranger cooneyes 68 merc box and hood,some supercool fiberglass fenders i scored way back when, 76 f150 disc brake frontend..currently running a 90 5.0HO 4bbl/c4 auto & 3.50 posi...originally a 360/c6 f100 Ranger with dealer added towpack (incl. kelsey hays trailer brake),boxside toolbox,behind the seat stowage & belly tank...only original parts left on 'er are the frame,rear end,rear springs,and rear bumper...

No reason you should have any problems. I would take the input out of the transmission first as there is nothing holding it in place if the converter is not installed. You really don't want the input accidentally "walking" into the back of the crankshaft.

Or, if you have any loose bell housing, just use only the bell.
