glove box questions

Post by Ashton_1012 »

hey everyone
i have a 72 f250 CS, and the glove box, probably like many of yours, is garbage. Its made of cardboard. Anyone have any idea where i can get a plastic or steel one?

Try LMC Truck, National Parts Depot, Mac's, Dennis Carpenter, or Blue Oval Truck Parts.

However, if you want a metal one do this: Buy a carboard version and when received, carefully pry it apart and trace the outline on a piece of sheetmetal or aluminum. Then mark the folds and bend it up. You have the option of welding or riveting it to maintain its shape.

Say, this would be a pretty good side business. Or, draw it up on a large piece of bond paper and scan it (at 100% scale )for us to use on our rigs.

Thanks!

Ashton,
AFAIK no one sells a plastic or metal one. I made a sheetmetal one for my dent years ago, (HVAC by trade) that took a little work but well worth it IMO. Steve, (Flatbedford i believe also has a metal one in his truck and a few other guys here. :hmm:

I redid my original glove box. Realy looked disgusting. Using CA glue cap filling formula I put it on all the area's that were coming apart. When dry I cut sanded all of the
excess off. Kept filling, sanding till I was comfortable with what I had and then painted the glove box. Lots of work but a lot better than those repo's. The battery in my
camera is dead as soon as it charges I will post pictures. Wish I would have taken before pictures it was TRASHED. Now nice and solid.

69ford,

Wow, you must have put a BUNCH of time into that! It looks great, though. I wish I had the time; I'd love to do something similar with mine.

I had a sheet metal one for my '68, but when we moved it must have gotten 'misplaced.' :x
I really wish I had that for Frodo!

I suppose it comes down to the cost. I need to replace mine, but it's not a super-high priority for me right now.

I would be, but it would be a few months down the road, maybe Christmas. Lots of bills right now (the Grand Voyager just blew a tire, and one of the others doesn't look too good) and we've had the OT at work cut. But I would definitely be interested.
Riveting sheet metal would probably be easier than welding it, especially galvanized.

I bought one yesterday on ebay for $32.95 with free shipping. There were some that were cheaper but the shipping was like $12-15 bucks!

My old one was chewed to bits by mice or squirrels...
