Gauge Cluster which one

Post by 69Ford »

Just finished up my big truck cluster. "Now I have three of them" and parts for a fourth. I'm including a picture so maybe someone can help me decide which one to install.
Top white Gauges. Middle Black Gauges. Bottom Big Truck Gauges. Also can somebody tell me where to find the spare hole plug for the big truck gauges. I have a
spare "Blink Marker Light" switch and a "Backup Light" switch. Not sure what a blink marker light switch is for.

Back in the times when these trucks were built that blink light switch was used as a means of communication by truckers. Professional drivers had to keep up with an extensive library of combinations of different lights used in various sequences. Truckers had their lives made much easier by the CB radio. And the knowledge of those various light signals is now almost extinct.

Personally, I think the F600 dash clusters look soooo much better than our stock clusters, so that would be my choice. I had 2 holes to fill in mine as well. When I ran it on my 72, I filled them with the gas tank gauge switch, and the emergency flasher switch. I have since acquired one of the "Blink Marker Light" switches like you have and when i put my Crew back together, I will be putting the emergency flasher back down next to the cigarette lighter and will run the blink switch as my 2nd hole plug. It wont be hooked up to anything, but it looks good and is not seen much on our trucks.

You can still see the remnants of the light signals today on Americas interstates.....if a large truck is signaling into the lane you are in beside and slightly ahead and you see he has room..blink your headlights three times. He is watching the mirrors......and when he sees the signal he will take the lane. The polite ones tap the brakes a couple of times just to say Thank You.

Will those 600 clusters fit right into the original spot or is dash modification necessary?

Fits right in perfect. The only thing that I had to do different is the wiring harness did not have the wires for the blinker. The plug on the wiring harnes had the spots open for the blinker
wires. Had another wiring harness out of a standard guage cluster took the blinker wires out and reinstalled them in the new wiring harness took all but five minutes and good to go everthing
works great. Have to go back to work I'll post picture in truck later.

Yep, I just put in an F600 cluster in my '67. I think I had to run one extra wire for the blinkers or something stupid like that, but I was done in five minutes, too. Looks soooo much better! I'm planning on installing a switch for the cargo lamp and moving my emergency flasher switch to the two holes that I have. Go with the F600 cluster ... and if you don't, then send it to me. It looks like it's in beautiful condition!

I'm down with the 600 cluster. I just acquired one myself. Now I'm wishing I found one with out the tach in it. Also noticed no dash pad. Is that permanent or are u working on it?

Why don't you want the tach. I have been thinking about putting one in mine but hesitant about cutting this cluster for it. And also don't know how the tach hooks up. The cluster is just put in place to make sure everthing works. The interior is removed and going to be painted and the original
dashpad put in.

The stock Ford tach is mechanical which will not work without a rework of the distributory. An electron one will fix. I haven't decided which one to install.

:yt:

Plus the tachs used back then were huge Stewart warner (over 5in). So if I want to put in a regular sized tach I would have to cut a hole on the other side and find a really big dash clock or someing to fill the large hole. Still going to look cool when I'm done 4 sho.
