well i dont really want to throw a wrench in to the theorys here, but my 67 F100 has the 240 with the 435 in it. she was built in twin cities MN. and lived in South dakota most of here life as a farm truck. it very well could have been a special order, but i dont have the vin plate in front of me to make sure.

thanks

Does anyone have a 302W with a stick? If so, what trans I HAVE A 71 WITH A 302 AND T18 4 SPEED

Anyway I was trying to figure out what trans my truck has. I expected it to have an NP435 but my buddy in AZ who has actually driven it says that reverse is up and to the right, indicating a T18. I'll have to verify that when it arrives.

Is there anything in particular I should know about the T18? Weaknesses to look out for? Is there a chance that it's a T19 stock?

The Mahwah plant was from before my time, but it was near the end of Sloatsburg Road where 17 hits the thruway, right? Where the Sheraton and Sharp Plaza are?

It now has a mild built 390 that dinoed at 405hp and just shy of 450ft lb torque, is now around 425hp and the np has held up great so far, burns the tires through all 4 gears and will brake them loose at over 50mph, so far a little over a year of speed shifting went well but it is starting to have a really hard time fast shifting into fourth now, I can no longer hit fourth while burning the tires through 3rd, synchros are probably hating life now, it jumped out of second once made a big bang but then kept driving, then had a knocking noise through the shifter, I stopped and it did it in neutral so I kept going to finish the cruise and after I shifted it went away but ever since that cruise its not wanted to speed shift 4th, sometimes it will, most the time it wont.

My 1970 f250 2x parts truck has a 360 and a t18 still not sure if I want to go through that or my np, I love the way the np shifts. I have a t18 in my
69 250 2x with a 240 I6 and hate how that one shifts
My last post in this thread was 6 years ago, but I still like 435's better than T-18's. The 435's are a goofy design inside, but they can shift pretty fast when you want them to. I can't ever recall a time when I missed a shift with a 435 that was in decent shape. The NP trannies have some monster dog teeth inside so I guess you can rip them into the next gear and not harm as much as other transmissions with conventional dog tooth brass synchros. I knew a guy who completely lost his brakes going down a hill to a stoplight in a 70's Dodge powerwagon with a 435 in it and got the 435 into reverse at about 40 MPH and used the clutch to stop the truck. He had 4.10's and somewhere around 40" tires. The math says that clutch disc was spinning 7770 RPM in the wrong direction. Didn't hurt the tranny one bit from what he said. Clutch was pretty much done though.
