Lubing Cables

Post by sweetlou »

Hello gang,
I am new here and I think I am very excited to have found you. I just got a 1972 F250 CS with the 390. One owner who babied this thing. Only 63 K original miles. Anyway, I notice that when you pull on the levers for heat/AC they are tight. I don't want to break anything so how does one lube these things and where? Same with roll down windows.

Look under the dash, locate the cables, follow them and try spraying the outside of the cables with a good penetrating oil (use a rag behind to catch the overspray). Be sure to get the cable that goes to a valve on one of the 2 hoses from the engine to the firewall on the passenger side. A thin spray oil will work its way into the core wire. Be gentle when working the controls, if an inner wire gets distorted, the heater box and control panel may need to be removed to fix.

For the window and lock/latch mechanisms, remove the door panel and you can access the innards, lube anything that moves...door latches, locks, window regulator etc.

Good luck, and wear glasses.

And if you can, show us some photos of your truck!
