Transmission?

Post by danr »

I have a 1967 ford f-100 240 three speed long bed ,will I be able to put in a 4 speed without much problem? and use the same bellhousing and such ? I found one out of a 70 model truck ,I have always loved the 4 speed with low 1st gear seems to suit me much better than the 3 speed. so is this an easy swap?

The 4 speed will bolt to the same bellhousing as the 3 speed, your drive shaft may fall a little short. The trans tunnel will need to be taller, if you dont have the removable tunnel in your truck allready. You may have to cut out the trans tunnel and bolt in the pan from the doner truck.

Can I just drill new holes where the carrier bearing bolts up? It looks like its only about 3/4 inch shorter.

The po did this in my truck. I dont think they did any changes to the trans tunnel but it looks like a factory install minus the steering column
