SEATS. Lets talk about them...

Post by 70shortwide »

Im getting close to working on my interior, so Im shopping for the carpet, seat, etc. Ive kept my eyes out for a newer bench seat but havent come across anything real nice locally yet. I think Im going to intensify my search, now Im thinking about different seats.

Can anybody give a real world review on a pre '96 seat? wondering about comfort, seat height, front-to-back room, etc.

my truck is lowered and the buckets (not factory) that I have in it sit kinda high, they take away from the low rider feel. I do have a tilt column so I can adjust the wheel to match where the seat ends up

I am not against fabbing mounts, I have a welder and I can weld well enough that I can usually grind it nice...

heres my little "preference list":

grey or black

fold down center console (maybe with cup holders? :hd: )

max leg room (of course..)

needs to sit at stock height, or lower.

Does anybody have a suggestion for a seat that you used and thought turned out well? again, Im not afraid of cutting something up and welding it together..

I recently got a good deal on seats out of an 03 super duty, front capitan and rear bench. I am leaning toward putting the rear bench in my 67 project at the moment because of the ease on installation and the look. Of course the orginal mounts don't come anywhere near the mounting holes for our trucks, but I think it will be an easy work around. I looked at the bottom of the bench seat and there is a frame all along the bottom to attach stock style mounting tracks.

The rear bench I have is big, comfortable, and has the fold down cup holder/arm rest in the seat. The capitan seats are electric and would involve making additional mounts to the inside of each seat. Also, I don't have any kind of a center seat so I would have to try and fill the hole in the middle with a console of some kind.

I am using the 40/20/40 from a 1995-96 f150 with ford explorer power seat bases. I have them out of the truck right now or I would take a picture of them for you, they are waiting for my leather covers to get here when my bro comes down next.

I put a seat out of a 88 f-150 lariat in my 68. It's comfy and has an arm rest and the best part was the 68 mounts bolted right up if I remember correctly.

Seat out of 92 f100. Sits a little lower than stock bench, which gives more room from steering column and it is soooo much more comfortable. The factory bench seat tracks bolts right to the seat and bolts in truck in factory seat mount holes. Also has flip up armrest.

that looks great! Its good to hear that it sits a little bit lower than stock. Ive been slightly worried about commiting to one of these for fear of it sitting a little high... Thank you for the pictures!

The seats are from a either a 65 or 66 mustang and are mounted via factory brackets. This was an option I believe in the 67 to 72 years, someone correct me if I a wrong. The mustang seats were used during that time. Very easy to install with the brackets.
