I have read till I am confused about all of these damn mats. Peel and Seal, Fat Mat, and some of the other stuff is Asphalt based. The rest of it is expensive and designed for the audio guru. After reading this thread:http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/show ... p?t=711889
and seeing this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWBzhEUG ... r_embedded
(long and boring)
I have decided to use a combination of Peel and Seal and Frost King Duct Wrap. Might possibly use a yoga mat and some aluminum flashing for the roof, maybe. I will let you know it works out.

The ZillaMat sounds pretty cost effective. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =6&t=59182

Zilla Mat from what I have read online (and that don't make it right) is asphalt based material too. I visited a local rod shop who had a "Sound Dampener" and after inspecting it and learning it was asphalt based as well, it made me start thinking... :hmm: Then I discovered that Peel and Seal can be purchased in different widths including 36" in a 100 ft roll. Then I started thinking about enterprising folks who buy this in bulk and cut it down and sell it as the super ultimate mega shifting dynamo sound deadening mat. Not that I am against a guy making a buck, but it appears about half of the choices are asphalt based and I am not trying to win an audio contest.

It's designed to patch a roof and roofs get hot, I have personally patched a canoe with it and had great results. So I figure that will be one more thing to keep the water out of my cab when the hot Texas sun lets it ooze through any pinholes I missed patching and welding up my floor. :woohoo: It will side on a vertical angles (I think I have a solution for this) but appears to do fine on over head applications. See this guys post #282 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/show ... 89&page=15

If I need a little bit more I can always go buy a 12.5 sqft roll locally.

Peel and Seal Price from Lowes is:

12.5 sqft -$16.48
25 sqft -$32.96
50 sqft -$65.92
100 sqft -$131.84 (found for $113 online in 36" roll)

Plus taxes of course

Not saying this is right or wrong, but after all the damn research done I could at least share some of my findings and reasoning for my choice with you good folks. Hope that helps.

Here are the results of Peel and Seal:

Question:
How much will 1 roll do in the "F"in cab?
Answer:
Image

Question:
How many rolls does it take to do the floor of the cab?
Answer:
3 rolls for $49 will do this...

Question:
Does it make a difference?
Answer: Yes!

Question:
Does it smell?
Answer: I can't smell it.

Question:
Is it easy to install?
Answer: Use a razor blade to cut it. You don't really need a roller. Don't wear with shorts, this stuff is so sticky that I am surprised it isn't known for being used as a redneck bikini wax.

I used water heater insulation that I bought at lowes I think it was 20 something a roll and I did the floor, and behind the tank and had alot left over. I put down roofing tar then the insulation and then the rubber mat and I've noticed a huge difference in how quite it is. I still gotta do the doors and roof.

Reference this thread to see how to do your roof with sound panels.
