Dana 44 or Dana 60 1/2 ton rear axle wanted

Post by Art »

Looking for the axles and housing (or parts) from a Ford 1/2 ton (5 lug) Dana 44 or Dana 60 rear axle. Any gear ratio or carrier type. Prefer 1967-1972 but will consider 73-79 trucks as well. Thanks.
owner of several 67-72 as well as 73-79 Ford trucks

Wanted: Parts for my 1930 Dodge coupe project - the DD model was built in 1930 and 1931

Um, I ain't gonna swear they didn't, but I am pretty sure that the trucks came with either a Dana 44 or a 9 inch Ford rearend...not a Dana 60. Lightest rig I know of that came with a 60 in Ford is a 3/4 ton. So, while you could put a 60 in the rear of your 1/2 ton easy enough, the lug pattern will be 8 on 6.5", not 5 on 5 1/4"

Honestly, I would stay with the 9 inch in a half ton. They are hell for strong, and easy to get parts for.

just my :2cents: worth.

When in doubt, hit the gas. It may not be the right answer, but at least it ends the suspense!!

The bolt pattern for the 1/2 ton trucks in this era is actually 5 on 5.5"

and yes some F100s DID roll down the assembly line with a Dana 44 or Dana 60 (technically a Dana 60-3) under the back:

Oops, I actually knew that was the spacing...that will learn me not to answer posts when I am fragged out from work! My bad.

Um, I DID say, don't quote me on this first off, and second off I DID mention the Dana 44.

Learn something new every day, I have never seen an F-100 with a 60 in the rear...so, cool!

Hope you find what you need.

Cheers!

ps, I would still run a 9 inch. Just personal pref. I have more trust in the 9" is all.
