So, I just bought a 72 F250 that needs a clutch on monday and parked it at my work.
I parked my daily driver 71 F250 next to it yesterday while I was at work.
On my way home MY DAMN CLUTCH WENT OUT two blocks from my house!! What gives!!??
I "Felt" a pop when i pressed the clutch in and after that the pedal would engage the clutch but its a LOT lower.
I crawled around under it today and all of the linkage, Z bar and such is ok. When i moved the fork with my hand it moved about an inch or two before i could feel the throw out bearing contact the pressure plate fingers. I'm guessing that a spring broke in the pressure plate or maybe the pivot for the fork?? It still drives but I only went a few blocks with it (using the clutch). The only discernible thing that is wrong right now is the low pedal.
How long do you think it'll go before it just stops working? Am i on the right track with my diagnosis?
Ughhhh.... two clutch jobs in my future...at least I'll be really good at it by the time I'm done

I feel your pain. I've had to replace the rack and pinion in my wife's mini van twice. I'm getting pretty good at it now.

After you get done with the 2 trucks you will do fine in a clutch. But really I feel for ya. No fun when stuff breaks.
May your sails stay full, and your knots not slip. Unless a slip knot.

Re: Sympathetic trucks!!
I finally got around to taking a closer look at my clutch problem on my old truck. It turns out the lower bolt on the the motor side of the Z-bar broke. the head popped of and so now the Z-bar has a little play in it. Funny, because I heard a, "Ping" right when the pedal engagement got a little different. It must have been the head popping off and hitting the drivers side exhaust down pipe or something.
I thought itd be a easy fix but now the bolt is stuck in there. Hopefully it'll turn out. At least its not another clutch job!!
