1961 F100 transmission questions

Post by chisum5013 »

I just bought a 1961 ford f100 with a six cyclinder 223 engine in it, I was hoping someone could tell me how to change the transmission fluid. The transmission has a plug in the bottom and one on the passanger side about 3/4 ways up the transmission. I suppose you take the plug out of the bottom and drain it and then fill it by using the side plug until it comes out, is this correct? Also what type of fluid should I use to refill it? How do I tell what type of transmission is in it? Thanks for you help in advance..

1) Correct

2) 80W/90 or 75W/90 should be fine, I don't know what the factory called for though.

Have you checked out the Slick 60s forum yet? It's specific to the the '61 to '66 F-series:
