Unknown switch on transmission

Post by stink bear »

Trying to post a picture, first time.
Anyway, I have 2 switches on my transmission. I'm pretty sure it's an NP435 but I didn't look at the data tag. It's in a 72 F100 4X4.
Anybody know what the switch on top is for? I found the wire unplugged when I took the floor pan off. I thought it might be a neutral safety but supposedly they don't exist on NP435's.

I supposed I should read your entire post before replying.. I did not see the part with the 2 connections. I was replying that the red switch is your reverse lights, which I am sure you already know. I don't have an answer for you on the upper thing. The NP435 that we were dealing with in a buddies truck did not have that. But then, his was not a 4x4, so I do not know if there was a difference.

That is for Transmission Regulated Spark Control System - 8 Cyl - 360, 390 CID Engine
1972 F100 with 3 or 4 Speed Manual Trans. w/Air Conditioner and Super Cooling. There is a diagram in the tech section here on this sight.
