I have lost all shift lever resistance, and truck will not shift into any gears using shifter on column in our 1970 Ford F-100 with a C-6 transmission.
I removed the linkage arm at transmission, and manipulated the shifting arm on C-6 transmission into the "Park" position, so car will not roll.
Anybody have any idea which parts I should replace in the colum to regain resitance and functionality of the shifitng mechanism ? Is there a cable that runs down the column to connect shift linkage ?
Thanks and Regards,
Leegrboy

Re: !(&) F-100 column shift for C-6
With an automatic column, there's actually very little that can go wrong. Cracked shift collar, worn shift lever, spot weld broken on the emboss (top or bottom), and upper and lower column bearings. From what you're saying, I'm leaning toward the first two with the cracked shift collar being at the top of the list. Here's a write up on rebuilding a column and there's a photo of a busted shift collar too at the bottom of page one. Ask me how I know ...
