Mr Aolnago, I can not post pictures, ( wish I could).
As for the cross member in my 72 Ranger XLT short bed 2 wheel drive, it is just a simple unbolt.
Seems like I had to cut the rivets out the first time and replace them with bolts , but that was in about 198? something.
Your truck must be different from mine.
Mine is pretty simple , it just takes a little time to change the transmission , (which I can't seem to find enough of).

My torque converter and transmission worked perfect, it just leaked .
The transmission guy said the old torque converter ( 1969 factory stock) could go bad and mess up the new rebuilt transmission, there fore no warranty with the old torque converter.

Maybe Mr Donnie or some of the others that are transmission experts will chime in on this.

I wish I could help you more.

Crazy Horse, you builder is correct, if he is going to stand behind it, He wants a reman conv up front..Stator caps wear, increasing inside tolerances...fin's get loose & create powdered metal, or crash altogether if they get loose enough, they are only tabbed thru a slot & bent over.
Performance units are furnace brazed or tigged for strength...Chrysler has ALWAYS furnace brazed their converters, from the factory.
Also stator springs loose their ability to keep the rollers in contact or sometimes break causing a seized stator...If your stator is seized your truck will have normal feel off the line, but hits the wall at higher speeds .....like driving into a 80mph headwind
If your stator is not holding, your truck will feel helpless off the line & create a lot of heat..Like a Dynaflow............. :hmm:
That pretty much covers these converter's xcept for the front fiber washer that can & does wear, causing some clearance problems.
Just be cautious when searching reman's............there are some $89.00 specials out there...... ..................Donnie

Thanks, both of you, for info on the torque converters. Sounds like spending a little up front will probably save me a lot down the line. Exactly what I needed to know.

Mr Hedz, thank you.

I sure would welcome information from you , (and others too),
on how to build a Ford C 6 Transmission.
I have a extra C 6 transmission I have considered trying to rebuild.

I'd be interested in a build thread-- I, too, have a "spare" C6 sitting out back (although it has the long tailshaft which Clyde does not have...)

On the topic of leakage:

Clyde's leaking around the intermediate band adjustment screw AND gear selector lever, as well as at the driveshaft yoke. Not bad, but not going to cure itself. Come spring, I'll do the work. Just topping off the fluid for now.

Interesting about no warranty with the old torque converter. I'd still be interested in what Donnie has to say about old vs. new torque converters. One of those "if it ain't broke" questions, I guess.

Thanks for the feedback,

Joseph
a converter they tend to become contaminated with metal which will eat the new trans.

Hi team, in short, to have to keep from repeating myself.........on torque converter replacement: please read my prior post dated 10/ 4 /13
A lot of folks, flush & reuse.....if you are building your own unit...it is your call..But any good builder will want you to replace it...Donnie
