Transmission/transfer case swap

Post by crewdcab »

Looking for some insight. I am in the process of doing a frame up resto/mod on a 68 F100 4x4 shorty. My parts supply is a 79 F150 4x4, 400/4 speed, NP205. I want to retain the FE from the 68 and use the trans/t-case from the 79. I know the bellhousing is wrong, but with the correct bellhousing, will it work? Is the spline count the same on the input shaft? Am I better off using my original trans/Dana 21 combo?
Thanks.

While the D21 is ok for general use ,the NP 205 is stronger and there are benefits to low range.
You should have no problems but look close when you have them apart and side by side. :2cents:
