Auto column light up?

Post by Ranchero50 »

Dumb question time, but does the original auto column have a light for the shifter indicator? Mine doesn't and does not have the wiring for one, I think it's a '71 column. Saw a dent with the tilt column torn apart and it had the provision for a lamp.

My auto column came from a '71 too and don't see any wiring for lighting.

My 72 did not have a light either. I believe I read somewhere that was one of the things they added in the dent era...

If anybody can make a lighted indicator project happen it's you Jamie

Got a question about the indicator cover though. Dose the indicator cover from a dent fit over the indicator of a bump and look right ? Just thinking that if its got a light it would need a cover to keep the light on the indicator and not shining everywhere else.

My recolection was that bumps didnt have the lighted gear shift indicator but the dents did. none of mine have a lamp nor provisions for wiring one in.

Cool, thanks for the answer. I never saw any provision in any wiring diagram and thought it odd. As I still have to figure out my horn ckt I'll look into adding a lamp or tiny green LED then.

LMC used to list a dial light for the bumpsides, bought one and tried to make it work...no room for it. LMC has since removed it from their 67-72 column parts.
It'd be pretty handy to have something, those little LED's just might be the thing.
