Clutch linkage

Post by classic67 »

I just dropped my newer motor in and put a new clutch in while the motor is out. I am putting the linkages back together but the pedal wont tighten up. I fugured it would be hard to adjust since its new. but it wont even turn all the way out it just falls apart. I noticed the outer bracket on the frame can slide a little but i dont know. The bushings arent that bad and i havent installed the spring either. but i figured it would sit tight.

Sounds like the rod is to short and you'll need to buy a new one. How long is the adjustment rod ?

I disagree, it sounds to me like the pressure plate isn't set up correctly at the rebuilder or the factory. The height of the fingers is critical for linkage adjustment. The other possibility is that you have the wrong throw out bearing. This all assumes that everything is in correctly. :D

Clutch and bearing are identical. Do they make longer rods?

Its got about 1/8 in of slack total. So I should be able to adjust it somewhere.

Did you get the shifter fork and throw out bearing installed correctly?

Ask yourself why the adjustment rod worked with the old clutch but not with the new one.

Thats just it i dont remember how well it worked i just know it worked i blew the engine 5 years ago and it sat in a storage unit. Ive never done a linkage adjustment on it. It could be old parts not working aswell as they should. everything ive touched so far is new or refurbed. eveything ive replaced is put in correctly. :?
