Linkage to clutch cable conversion

Post by jonathanq1894 »

I'm changing out the original 70 302 for a newer 92 302 and if I recall, the linkage actually bolts into the block. Well, the new block doesn't have that, so, I wanted to change it to a cable style so I can get rid of that much more slack as well. Any ideas? Or if there's already a write up on this let me know. Thanks

Fyi... there is a bolt on bracket available in the aftermarket that allows use of the mechanical linkage on a later engine.

Unfortunately, the photos appear to have been moved or deleted. Give a shout out to Saturn5 and maybe he can repost them. https://fordification.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=71822 Basically, you'll have to convert the pushing motion of our clutch assembly to a pulling motion like the fox body mustangs. To do this, you'll have to modify the clutch pedal to accomodate a quadrant assembly and drill a hole in the firewall for the cable adjuster. Kinda like this mod for a 66 mustang. http://www.slantnosefox.com/picturehost ... adrant.jpg There are kits out there but they're a little pricey. The quadrant kits are not that bad but you'll have design/engineer your own retrofit. Another option is to install a hydraulic clutch. Actually probably easier. Here's what one member did http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... hp?t=66346 and here's a write up in our tech section http://www.fordification.com/tech/M5R2_5spd-swap.htm There are kits out there for Mustangs too that'll probably work for our trucks.
