1972 long bed f-100 zf5 upgrade

Post by gummbyf100 »

My F 100 is a Windsor 302 with a three on the tree are going to deal on a zf5 I know I'll need to install a hydraulic clutch and put a different flywheel but what I can't find out is what to have half modifications might I need to make and what would be the easiest way to go with with making a transmission cross brace and is there any other issues I should look into

Don't know about the ZF5 bolting up to the 5.0 but there's a ton of crossmembers out there so no need to make one. http://www.summitracing.com/search/part ... ossmembers

Why do you say that about the zf5 its the most reliable 5 speed manual I could find with a large capacity Ford torque and horsepower

That was meant as that I don't know about the zf5, it's functioning, applications, design, etc. Nothing at all. I was just talking about crossmembers. Sorry if I offended. :D

Nope. Not a clue. Sorry. There's some project threads over at the RangerStation http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/ ... p?t=147756 On newer trucks and mostly 4wd but some info there.

We did ours with a 300 6cyl ( same blt pattern as your small block 302) I built a cross member ( modified the one from the truck I took trans from) it was a 90 f150. I had to build a simple one for the carrier bearing. Original would not work for our app. Also made a bracket to attach to the clutch pedal to work the hyd. clutch. I think I have some pics I can e-mail you if want to PM your address. We really like the combination, seems to work really well.

A Tremec TKO 500/600... it can bolt on with minimal mods. And it is compatible with mechanical cluth linkages. Speedo is also a bolt-on.

Yep, TKO-500 or 600. Use stock manual bellhousing, stock clutch linkage, stock clutch, stock flywheel, and stock crossmember. Might have to shorten your driveshaft depending on what you currently have. Good luck trying to break it.
