I have a 67 ford with a Cruise-o-matic transmission. Can I remove the transmission from the truck with the bell housing still in place?
thanks

Re: Remove transmission without removing Bell Housing
If you're sure the torque converter is still clean, no shavings in it, etc.
I have removed and installed FMX transmissions this way in a car. I lined up the trans with the torque converter visually before lifting it into place. I had to "wiggle" the trans very slightly to make sure I had all three "clicks". If you do it this way, you'll have to be very careful not to force the trans to the bell. Basically, just let the trans go in if it wants to. Also, don't let the weight of the trans hang if you do it this way.
Is there some reason for you not wanting to remove the bell from the engine?
When I did this, it was because I didn't want to lift the car any higher than I absolutely had to.
