rear axle seal shim

rear axle seal shim
I need to remove my rear axle seal to install new one there is a metal shim or washer in front of it do I reuse it if so how do I get it out without damaging it 67 f100 2wd Ford 9in rear end thanks for any help

I've done a lot of axle seal and axle bearing replacements but, I don't know of any axle seal shims in a Ford 9-inch.
Do you have a photo of what you're referencing?
This is a new axle seal I had put in the 9-inch rear end housing under my F100, just ahead of installing 31-spline axles. No shims here.
