Thanks for the reply. I might just go the floor shift. I know it want be original ,but it's the "cool" factor i like.

wonder how this approach would work with a C4. Any decent floor shift options for an automatic?

After a week or so of using the new Hurst I can safely say I have already forgotten about the 3 on the tree.
I did this same change many years ago and remembered it fondly but was reserving judgement as memory isn't all its cracked up to be.
Slick shifting, no doubt about where neutral is, just very positive feel all a round. There is no doubt this is a freshly rebuilt top loader but it feels very good now with the new shifter. Before I wasn't so sure of the rebuild I had gotten done.
It does have a fairly long throw so be aware of that. I'm a pretty big guy and its a bit of a reach for me . T he ease of use and how nice it looks over comes that.

when you say it has a long throw, does this mean that my 5ft 7in body will be leaning way over to go to 1st and 3rd ? If so ,i don't think i would like that.

Glad to hear it works well! Hey, Jimmy, you can always just use a different handle to move the peak closer to the seat. Hurst has lots of varieties. https://www.hurstshiftersonline.com/pro ... ategory=51

The length of the arms or levers that bolt to the tranny determines the throw. On the mastershift i had, i found an extra set of arms im pretty sure came off a super shifter i had, much shorter than the arms that was on there. Cut the throw from 6 to 7 inches to 4 or 5.

theres no doubt my 3spd manual column will bite the dust before i can swap over to a np435 or a nv4500 and your solution seems like the ticket until i track one of those trans to match my floor shift ol school manual column
