Dana 60 Spider Gears needed!

Post by Ks Highboy »

I have a 67 F250 4x4 and need a set of spider gears. I was told by the local Dana dealer that they are no longer offered in the 16 spline axle like mine. Didn't know if there was an aftermarket option out there. I checked on Rockauto and found some that said 16 spline but then it asks if its a 30 or 35 spline. Which doesn't make since to me. Anybody know of any available?

You may already have your problem solved, but the answer is, the 16 spline is considered obsolete and the items you're looking for are now scarce. The 16 spline was only used by Ford through 1972. `1973-up used the higher spline counts. To make things restrictive, The frame width also changed that year, so it becomes difficult to swap in the newer axle with the higher spline count without a lot of modification.

If you can find a '73-up rear axle from a 4x4 highboy, that axle will have the higher spline count AND the spring perches for the previous narrower frame. But only from a dentside 4x4 Highboy, not the late dentside Lowboy. Because, you know... Ford. :woohoo:
